IRA Newsletter Project: Effective Literacy Website #3

Clarkness (http://www.clarkness.com) is an educational website is dedicated to providing stories and books to beginning readers. All of the stories and books found on Clarkness are free and some are even editable. It is hoped that this website will help beginning readers on their successful lifelong journey of reading. The site was created by Clark Ness who is a former special education teacher from Spokane Valley, Washington USA and have created these free stories, ebooks and other materials for use in the classroom and at home. Clark Ness has an amazingly large set of learning to read books available. The site includes literally thousands of easy readers, phonics-based readers, sight word books, and much, much more.
This site is great for beginning readers since it has books of different levels. Some of the books it has includes 245 Levelled early readers in open dyslexic font, 245 levelled early readers in Arial font, 74 Spanish early readers, over 877 beginner reader stories for supporting sight word recognition, 28 math books for young children, 27 advanced reader books and more. You can access the books on this site by printing it, reading it on a computer, reading it on a tablet or reading it on a cellphone. With over hundreds of stories to choose from this site will surely have a book suited for any beginning reader. I would highly recommend this internet resource for teachers like myself who are on a budget and wanting to provide their students with early reading materials.
