IRA Newsletter Project: Effective Literacy Website #6

For my effective literacy website #6, I've chosen to explore Fun Brain which is a free online resource that includes books, games, and videos for students. The site offers a variety of content activities for students’ pre-K to grade 8. Fun Brain's bright and colorful displays is visually appealing to the eye and keeps users engaged. The reading library includes a great collection of graphic novels and popular titles, like the Diary of aWimpy Kidseries and Judy Moodybooks.  Fun Brain offers a wealth of games and books that can supplement classroom instruction and help students who may be falling behind.
FunBrain’s games are organized into a reading section, a math arcade, and a fun arcade, and the “All Games” tab gives a detailed breakdown of them all by topic, type, and grade level. The games themselves focus on language arts and math, so students can have fun while mastering these subjects. Some of the games even align with Common Core State Standards. Fun Brain’s games help students build on what they have learned in class and acquire new skills in reading, math and problem solving. Being a Kindergarten teacher, I’m glad this site has options of users of the younger age. I’m looking forward to using this site in my own class and seeing my students practice with it. I think they will enjoy the book Daisy Nuzzlehead Paints Everything. This makes the site a great supplement for students who may need extra practice outside of school hours.
