The
website https://guam.pbslearningmedia.org/
is a multimedia resource page and is a great tool for promoting literacy to
children in all grade levels. It can be used for grades Pre-K-12. PBSLearning Media
provides free standards aligned videos, interactives, and lesson plans for
teachers which makes it an effective literacy website. The website has various
interactive lessons for the different disciplines including Social Studies,
Arts, Science, Mathematics, English Language Arts, Reading, etc. The
disciplines are then separated to different sub topics. For example, Social
Studies is separated into six different topics. The topics are Civics and
Government, Economics, Geography, Elementary Social Studies, U.S. History, and
World History.
The
website is easy to navigate and is user friendly. The user can browse by grade
level or by subject. The different resources are then presented. For example,
there is a lesson on “Building the Pyramids of Ancient Egypt”. This lesson can
be found by either clicking on the “World History” tab or by clicking on the
“Middle School” tab. Once clicked on, the website leads you to an abundance of
different topics and resources. The page is then divided into three tabs that
include about, support materials, and standards. I was amazed at how detailed
the website was making it easy for any teacher or student to use.
The
lesson plans provided on the website are very detailed and easy to follow. The
lesson plans include objectives, standards, screen summaries for the
interactive videos, vocabulary, assessments, lesson aids, and extensions. The
best part is that it includes rubrics and support materials that align with the
common core and career readiness standards for adult education. It makes learning
fun and relevant for students to enjoy and apply in real life situations.
I
highly recommend this site for teachers and students who want to promote and
enhance literacy both in the classrooms and in their lives. It is a free
website where students and teachers can create an account. Once the free
account is created, the resources and learning materials are in abundance. The
lessons are engaging and meant to captivate learning. The website can be used
for both struggling readers and advanced readers. It provides endless reading
resources, assignments, rubrics, videos, and vocabulary activities for teachers
to use. The website is well designed and pleasing to the eye. I am glad this
website was created for students and teachers to use freely.
