Starfall
is a nonprofit organization that offers free and low-cost resources for
children. The games and resources provided are aimed to help children learn to
read through exploration. They offer different activities for Language Arts,
Reading, Music, and Math. You do not need an account to access most of these
features. The resources and games provided are targeted for preschool through
third grade. Starfall puts an emphasis on phonemic awareness, systematic sequential
phonics, and common sight words in conjunction with audiovisual interactivity has
proven effective in teaching emergent readers. Starfall’s activities are also
aligned to Common Core State Standards.
The games provided are quite
engaging. I played a Parts of Speech game designed for 2nd and 3rd
Grade students. I feel like students will enjoy playing it and it will serve as
a good refresher for students.
I also think students will enjoy
using this website at home. I would recommend this website to colleagues and
parents because it provides free resources.
