Rewordify (http://rewordify.com/) is a free online software created by Neil M.
Goldman with the goal to help more people understand more of what they read.
This site rewords or replaces difficult words with easier words and still keeps
the original meaning of the passages. It introduces new words to build a better
vocabulary. It identifies and extracts over 58,000 difficult words and phrases
and offers a variety of learning activities with answer keys. There are over
300 pieces of classic literature available on this site. It even provides a
progress chart so learners can keep track of their learning.
There
is a provided engine where you can copy-paste an entire text passage to see a
simplified version. After pasting the text passages, the simplified version
appears and the words that are replaced are highlighted. If you click on the
highlighted words or phrases, the original word appears with an audio icon for
you to listen to the pronunciation. Additionally, after you “rewordify” or
replace the text, a purple bar appears at the top. From there, you can click on
the buttons to pick hard words and learn them in an effective learning session.
This is especially helpful for ESL students as well as teachers. Oftentimes, we
have difficulty comprehending a text, and it takes time to find words in
dictionary. This site saves time and energy because we can just paste the
passage in the engine and click “rewordify.” From there, the passage will be
simplified, yet the meaning and main ideas remain the same.
This site also offers
individualized learning activities such as quizzes, vocabulary lists, cloze
passages, and even printable learning activities. Furthermore, it provides
answer keys to save time for teachers. It is safe for kids to browse, and it is
fast and uses very little data.
Rewordify allows users
to change the difficulty level and presentation style to match their level as
well as improve engagement. In addition, it works as an app on any device. It
reduces frustration and improves comprehension by maximizing time spent reading
than researching on dictionary. This is because the definitions are easy to
understand, context-aware, and match verb tense and part of speech used in the
passages or phrases. You can change the way the site works to fit your learning
style as you read and learn from almost any text passage or web page. I
recommend this effective literacy website for any student, teacher, or parent.
