ReadWriteThink (www.readwritethink.org) is a resourceful,
literacy-rich website that provides student interactive, lesson plans,
printable, and mobile apps for grades Kindergarten to 12th grade to
help learners with their reading and writing skills. The content in this
website is reviewed and approved by literacy experts who understand best
practices and share a passion for literacy learning. Moreover, ReadWriteThink’s
mission is to provide educators, parents, and afterschool professionals with
access to high quality practices in reading and writing instruction by
providing some of the best materials for free.
In addition to the classroom
resources and materials, there is a tab on professional development for
educators. It includes strategy guides, professional library, meetings and
events, and online professional development. The strategy guides provide
examples of effective literacy teaching and learning strategies to help sharpen
instruction. The professional library helps inform educators with the latest
research and find practical teaching tips. The Online Professional Development allows
for educators to collaborate, connect, and learn new techniques and strategies
with other literacy professionals.
As I further explored the website,
there were also videos on Literacy in Action from educators and presentations
on how to increase literacy in the classroom. Educators can also encourage
families at home to engage their child in reading or writing activities by
visiting the Parent and After-School resources section. Overall, I found the
resources to be very useful for educators, parents, and children. It is also
very user-friendly and easy to navigate through, as it is very organized. I
think this website is effective in promoting literacy because of all the
resources and materials available on the site for educators, parents, students,
and literacy professionals.
