IRA #6

BrainPOP (https://www.brainpop.com/) is a literacy website that provides a variety of resources to classroom teachers. Most of it is free and available for use in the classroom. BrainPOP caters to all subjects which are Science, Social Studies, English, Math, Arts, Music, Health, Engineering, Technology, and things that are new and trending. I really like how it has free resources for all the different disciplines and STEM subjects. The website is easy to navigate for anyone to use.
The literacy website is composed of eight different tabs on the homepage.  The tabs include Science, Social Studies, English, Math, Arts and Music, Health, Engineering and Technology, and things that are new and trending. On the home page, it also displays a free BrainPOP topic. For example, right now it has a topic on Saturn. It then has different activities to go with the science lesson which are Make a Map, Play Sortify (game), and Take the Challenge (worksheet about Saturn). The website also offers new for adults like “Effectiveness Study” on their home page.
The tabs on BrainPOP are organized well by content. You can either use the search box or click on a subject. For example, several English units pop up when English is clicked on. The units include famous authors and books, grammar, study and reading skills, and writing. The website then provides different activities to teach the certain topic. It includes games, practice, different activities, and so much more to help students in their writing. Some examples include book report, business letter, adjective, citing sources, etc.  The website does the same for the other subjects and their topics.
BrainPOP is an effective literacy website because it offers various resources including videos. It caters to all grade levels and is easy to navigate. The website is very colorful and eye catching to not only adults, but children as well. I recommend all to try it in the classroom. I will actually try this website next week with my class teaching Egypt mummification.
